Wooden Chicken Coops: Custom Built in Cape Town
A wooden chicken coop gives your hens a dry place to roost and lay, and gives you easy access to the eggs. We build each coop to order in our Cape Town workshop, sized to your flock and your garden.
Coops suit backyard keepers with a few hens or a bigger flock. You choose the size, the roof and the finish. We can add nesting boxes you open from outside, perches, a ramp, a run, and a removable tray that makes cleaning easier. Talk to us about the mesh for the run and the kind of latches you want. B-grade pine is our standard timber. A-grade pine is cleaner and costs more.

Questions about chicken coops
How long does a chicken coop take to make?
Every chicken coop is made to order, so timing depends on the size, the design and how busy the workshop is. Our current lead time is [LEAD TIME TBC], and we confirm it with your quote.
Do you deliver and install?
Yes. We deliver and install in Cape Town and surrounds, and our delivery area is [DELIVERY AREA TBC]. You can also collect from our workshop.
Will a pine chicken coop last outdoors?
Pine used outdoors must be sealed, then resealed regularly to keep it protected from sun and rain. We seal with [TIMBER TREATMENT TBC] and will tell you how often to reseal. Cleaning out the coop often also helps the wood last.
Will the coop keep out predators?
We can add stronger mesh, a covered run and secure latches, and we talk through the options with you. Let us know what you have seen in your area and we plan around it.
How do the deposit and payment work?
We ask for a deposit of [DEPOSIT TBC] to start the build, and the balance is due on completion, before delivery or collection. Custom work is non-refundable once we have started, but you get a full refund if you cancel within 48 hours of ordering.
